This is amazing! This is the kind of music that inspires one to create without worries of what expectations are. In my opinion, expectations hold back creativity.
It we everything that's expected, how do we progress in creative ways. I"m not advocating a constant breaking of the rules but a stepping over the line occasionally.
Thank you for this post...I'm sure it will trigger one of use to push the other foot over the line just a bit further.
When creating I've found it's very important to not put the cart before the horse. It's much more conducive to be in the moment. The hardest time to create is when one goes in with a preconception. Plans and outlines are good to have, but they aren't law and you can always go back to them. If you find yourself caught in a moment and something tickles your fancy, don't be afraid to explore it. And have a recorder ready at any moment so you can go back and dissect it later.
I read a quote earlier today from Frederick Nietzsche: "Any conviction is a prison." On the other hand, without conviction little of value would ever be accomplished. So there is always this tension between stifling creativity and becoming so unfettered that what is produced has no meaning. Finding some middle ground between the two extremes, it seems to me, is what creativity is all about. In the Buddhist world, this is referred to as "equanimity".
